Our History
Team Schierl Companies' Yesterday
On December 1, 1956, with the help of his father, Shorty Schierl, John "Butch" Schierl founded Schierl Inc. by purchasing a small one-truck fuel oil business, Central Valley Oil, from the Copps Corporation for $650.00. He later diversified into commercial/residential HVAC contracting business and service station ownership. As the petroleum and repair business began to separate from the traditional two bay service stations in the late 1960's, Butch was approached to acquire the Goodyear franchise in 1962 and operated a service garage on the north side of Stevens Point. In 1971, he moved the Tire & Service business to a new retail Goodyear Tire and Service Center on the east side of Stevens Point.
Retaining his roots in the petroleum industry, Butch, in 1976, started Schierl Sales Corp. the then newly developing self-serve gasoline business. This initial purchase included several local gasoline stations re-opened under "The Store" brand. Butch became the first "convenience store" operator in central Wisconsin.
In 1989, Butch fell terminally ill with cancer and the organizations ownership and operations transitioned to his three sons, Tim, Fritz, and Bill, who were already active in the business and operate as Co-CEO's.
In 1991, Tim, Fritz, and Bill formally changed the name of the organization to Team Schierl Companies (TSC), signifying their emphasis on the "team" philosophy, created a new logo and tagline, and developed a new Vision/Mission statement that focused the corporate direction for the future.
During 1995, Team Schierl Companies purchased the Stevens Point franchise for Subway Restaurants and began operating two restaurants. One of these restaurants was part of a co-branding food service offering in a local, The Store, convenience store. This co-branded facility was the first like it in central Wisconsin.
In 2001, Team Schierl Companies entered into a joint business venture with Connie Hartje in LaValle, WI. This venture represents the dual ownership and operation of one retail Goodyear Tire & Service Center. The location operates as Hartje Tire & Service.
A significant expansion of TSC's Real Estate Development Division took place in 2003 with the purchase of 70.6 acres in Weston, WI. This development, Cross Pointe Corporate Park, has been in concert with a newly built St. Clare's Hospital and Marshfield Clinic complex. Cross Pointe will further support TSC's existing business in the Weston market.
